UTJ Viewpoints Contributor Rabbi Alan J. Yuter teaches a weekly class in halakhah on Mondays, 8:00 PM Jerusalem time (1:00 PM Eastern, except 2PM Eastern on 10/30).
The class explores the principle of human dignity [כבוד בריות], which overrides all Rabbinic law and some Torah laws. Topics to be explored are static and dynamic aspects of Jewish law, programmed flexibility in Rabbinic decision making, rabbis functioning as judges and legislators, and learning history, theology, and sociology.
Knowing Hebrew is helpful but not necessary, Texts and notes will be provided.
