In his Times of Israel blog post<\/a>, Doug Aronin discusses the history of American immigration and the unique Jewish perspective on the issue.<\/p>\n

Many Jews feel torn\u00a0by the immigration debate.\u00a0\u00a0We have too often in our history been the scapegoats of choice for tyrants and demagogues\u00a0to feel entirely comfortable siding with the forces of xenophobia.\u00a0\u00a0Most of us, moreover,\u00a0remember immigrant relatives and have a natural feeling of solidarity\u00a0with those who have, as our grandparents did, sought the\u00a0freedom and prosperity in which America has enabled so many to share.<\/p>\n

There is, however, another side to Jewish feelings.\u00a0 It would be foolish to deny that there is a\u00a0growing concern among some Jews that increased Muslim immigration will not only dilute Jewish political influence, weakening American support for Israel,\u00a0but also ultimately (as has happened in some European countries), come to threaten Jewish safety.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n
